GENCON 2016

Post by skyshark » Fri Jan 22, 2016 12:29 am

The call for GENCON volunteers came out today, much earlier than in previous years.  If you plan on attending, be sure to sign up ASAP.

I am signed up as a Tier 4 RPG GM.  The hardcover book and hotel at higher tiers were tempting, but I like spending time seeing things at the con.

I usually stay 30 minutes east of downtown where friends live, but I have the early slots on Thursday and Sunday, so I was hoping for a hotel a bit closer.  By the time my lottery time came up, everything downtown and the near eastside were sold out.  I found something not part of the convention rates for $100/night, so that isn't too bad.

I love Indy, but Gen Con has really been getting too big in the last five years or so.  I'm never able to see everything that I'd like to.  They almost need to expand to Wednesday.

GenCon has a contract with the Indiana convention center through 2020.  My suspicion is that GenCon 2021 will be held some place that can better handle how much it has grown.  (Note, that is solely my speculation and not based on any inside information...  because I don't have any inside information!)

If anyone is interested, I have space available at the Crowne Plaza directly next to the convention center.  If you still need space or want to move to a closer hotel, send me a PM and we can discuss details.
