Ahh good. The outcome didn't change then despite my efforts to mess it up. Better lucky than good.

I too remember 3 individual Pro Evils, not a communal.

That's exactly the right time to upgrade[change] all the rules !
History: Protection from Evil is an old school spell and one of the over complicated/broken. It actually has 3 different parts [things]: AC/saves, mind control, and summoned creatures. The number of times any table I've been at has had to stop and reread that spell is very high. It is an overpowered 1st level spell, great for old school Permancy!
Future: Hopefully 2E totally guts this spell and makes it do only 1 straight forward thing [that scales].
