I'll be on standby to GM Sands pt 2 if no one else steps up and we have enough players for it to go off.

I sent this to Chris via PM, but thought I'd post it here since it seems germane.

I've never run PFS, but I may be able to run Destiny of Sands at Littleton on 3/25 since it does not have a GM yet. I have run Pathfinder home campaigns, as well as Savage Worlds and several other systems, so I have GMing experience, and I have run in Living campaigns before as well (Living City and Living Greyhawk). Also, I would prefer to run under Core because I am not fully abreast of all the other supplements.
Is there any kind of requirements before running? Am I responsible for buying the module and maps? Is there anything to ask that I haven't asked?

Neil,

If part 1 was run in Standard then part 2 would need to be standard. Myself, and most likely others, would be able to loan you a copy of the scenario, maps, and any miniatures needed.

It's up to the players to know the proper rules for their PCs. You just need to know the stats, abilities, spells, etc... for the creatures in the scenario.
Just knowledge of the scenario is needed to GM it.

It sounds like you have enough experience to GM for PFS. Plus, all the players should be able to help out with anything. The main thing is to have fun!

Shoot for those GM stars!!!

Got you added.

Awesome! One thing to note, however, is that running core only affects what the players can use. It doesn't change the scenario from a GM point of view. I think this scenario in particular you might find to be a challenge to run, as it uses rules from Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook, Pathfinder RPG Advanced Player's Guide, Pathfinder RPG
Bestiary, Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2, Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 3, Pathfinder RPG NPC Codex, Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Equipment, Pathfinder RPG Mythic Adventures, and Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Magic. As a GM, you're expected to have access to these sourcebooks. For the most part, nothing in that list is all that special. My biggest concern would be Mythic Adventures, as that book fundamentally changes/adds some major rules that affect the difficulty of the scenario. Personally, I'd recommend GMing a different scenario first. I think Chris would be more than happy to put something specifically up for you to GM next month that doesn't require as many weird rules. But totally up to you!
eldrwyrm wrote: Is there any kind of requirements before running?
Have some dice, know the scenario/be prepared, have chronicles for all the players or arrange in advance for the store to have them for you (Chris can usually take care of that).
eldrwyrm wrote: Am I responsible for buying the module and maps?
Sorta. You're supposed to purchase the pdf of the module, but as Christian stated, some of us can provide you with our copy. Sometimes the store is able to provide a copy. For Maps: Everyone has their own style. I am a huge collector of the flipmats and map packs. Many of them are reused in multiple scenarios, but the costs can add up quickly. The best maps to purchase are "Basic" and "Bigger Basic," as they're just double-sided blank mats in two sizes. You can usually fit most maps on the standard "Basic" mat, but it's always good to have a few, as some scenarios have a lot of maps to draw.

Minis! Bring something to represent the enemies. Don't have any? Buy some starburst. They are easy to use as color coded monsters, fit nicely in the 1" square map grids, and are a tasty reward for the murder hobos, err, party members.

Hope that all helps.

Thank you for all the info, Slate. Let's go ahead and jump into the deep end of the pool, I have access to all of those except NPC Codex, and I'm assuming that would just be for stats. Go ahead and sign me up to run Destiny of Sands, pt 2 on the 25th. I'll download a copy of it this week and start my prep work. If I run into anything too weird, i can always ask questions.

Sounds good -- got you added. I've played and read through the scenario before, so if there's anything you need help with feel free to shoot me a message. Also, I'll be at the table, so happy to help then, too.

Oh, also, pfsprep.com is your friend! Most every scenario has a lot of prep work done on there for you.

Neil, the GM messageboards for PFS on Paizo are also a GM's best friend. I always look there first before GMing. You'll find many answers to your questions and plenty of tips.
